UMW First UMC Galax, has a very active UMW group. We are a group of women whose purpose is to know God, to create a supportive fellowship, and to expand concepts of mission by participating in the global ministries of the church.

We meet on the second Tuesday morning of each month at 10:00 am with the exception of the month of August. We help with local missions and global missions. We welcome any women who would like to be a part of our fellowship.

PURPOSE OF UNITED METHODIST WOMEN

The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

UMW News – May 2017

Our next UMW meeting will be May 9th at 10:00 am in the UMW room. Norma Haynes has the program. Lunch plans will be announced later. Please plan to attend. We will be leaving for Lake Junaluska on May 18th for Holston UMW Spiritual Enrichment Experience. There is still time for you to make plans to join us on this trip. If you have never been to “the lake”, now is the time to go as this is the last UMW event to be held there. Future events are being planned in the area of Pigeon Forge, TN.

UMW News – April 2017

Our April UMW meeting will be on the 11th at 10:00 am.  Irene has the program and has invited a guest speaker, RN Beth Sproul, who will talk about her time on the Mercy Ship that was docked off of Africa.  Everyone is invited to attend.  Following the meeting the members are encouraged to attend the Easter week service at First Christian Church.  FUMC will be responsible for the meal on Wednesday, April 12th.  If you can send sandwiches, chips, cookies or drinks for that meal, please let the church office know or call Peggy Chappell at 233-0809.  And thanks in advance for your help.

UMW NEWS – March 2017

Thanks to all who helped with our Shrove Tuesday pancake supper and to all who came and enjoyed eating with us. It’s great to see our church family and friends coming together for food and fellowship. Our next UMW meeting will be March 14 at 10:00 am in the UMW room. Judy Farmer has the program which will be our Call to Prayer program. Lunch plans will be announced later. Please make every effort to attend. On the 25th we will be going to Aldersgate UMC for the Spring Mini-Retreat. Please let me know if you would like to go. Lake Junaluska plans will come next month.

UMW News – February 2017

What a joy to have so many of our church family and friends come together for the New Member’s meal January 22! The food was delicious and the fellowship was great. Many thanks to all who participated. It wouldn’t have happened without all the wonderful help we had in getting ready and working in the kitchen cooking and cleaning. We appreciate all of you.

We will have our next meeting on February 14th at 10:00 am in the UMW room. Danise will have the pledge service and we will go to Melany’s for lunch. Hope all will come.

Mark your calendar for Shrove Tuesday pancakes February 28th. We will serve all-you-can-eat pancakes from 5-7 that evening. There will be no charge but donations will be accepted for the ongoing work of our UMW. Come and join on the 28th and bring your friends along with you. All are welcome.

UMW News – January 2017

 

The members of the UMW are grateful to each of you who helped a local child have a happier Christmas by taking an angel from the Angel Tree. Many thanks! Our next meeting will be January 10th at 10:00 am in the UMW room. We will have our pledge program and Danise is in charge. We hope everyone will attend.

January 22nd we will host the annual new-members meal for our entire church family. We will provide meat, bread and drinks. Please come and bring your favorite side dish or dessert and enjoy a meal and fellowship. The dinner will be immediately following the 11:00 am worship service. Looking forward to seeing each of you that day.

UMW News – November 2016

The members of the UMW would like to express our sincere appreciation to all who came and supported our UMW Sunday and to those who came to the meal following the second service. Also, thanks to all who took part in the service and who helped downstairs. It helps us to know that our church family cares. Due to the November election, our next meeting will be on November 1st at 10:00 am in the UMW room. This will be our World Thank program and Mariah is in charge. Please try to attend.

UMW News – October 2016

October is fast approaching and will be a very busy month for our UMW.  October 11 is our regular meeting day.  Linda Burnette has our program and we will also install officers for the upcoming year On October 22 we will travel to Jordan’s Chapel for Wytheville District UMW Fall Annual Meeting.  Let me know if you’d like to join us for that trip!  Due to elections in November our UMW meeting has been changed to November 1.

We are getting things ready for the Angel Tree project since Christmas is just around the corner.  More on that will be coming soon.

Mark your calendar for our UMW Sunday on Oct. 16th and plan to bring your favorite dish for our covered dish meal following the 11:00 service.  We will provide meat, bread, and drinks.  I’m sure you will want to hear our new district superintendent, Rev. Kim Goddard and to have the opportunity to meet her.

UMW News – Foster Falls Trip, September 2016

After taking the month of August off, the UMW is ready to get busy with our fall activities. We are looking forward to our annual trip to Foster Falls on September 13. The bus will leave the church parking lot at 10:00 am. Bring a sandwich. Everything else will be provided. All women are invited to attend our meeting. Please join us on the 13th. We will be leaving for Lake Junaluska for Houston Conference UMW Annual meeting on September 16th. It’s not too late to make plans to go with us. Mark your calendars for UMW Sunday scheduled for October 16. Rev. Kim Goddard, Wytheville District Superintendent, will be our guest speaker. We will have a covered dish meal following the 11:00 worship for our church family. The UMW will provide meat, bread and drinks. Please bring your favorite side or dessert and enjoy a time to meet our new District Superintendent and fellowship together.

The UMW will meet July 12th at 10:00 am in the UMW Room. Peggy will have the program and we will go to RJ’s for lunch. We hope you can attend this meeting. We won’t meet in August but will have our annual meeting at Foster Falls in September (13th).
