Sunday Reflection (February 19, 2023)

The first coming of Jesus Christ was a dawning whose brightness grows until Christ comes again (2 Peter 1:16-19).  This brightness grows in that the message of God’s love and compassion revealed in Jesus Christ has gone beyond Palestine unto the ends of the earth, even unto Galax and where you live. We are part of a growing brightness in which the sharing of God’s love and compassion happens most often in the simple caring compassionate things that we do.

Because of Jesus Christ, a new day/age has begun. Indeed, it is a new age that introduces a new way of understanding life and a new way of living life. This brightness continues to grow within us and among us because the Holy Spirit creates us as instruments of divine love and compassion in the way of Jesus Christ.

Prayer for the Week (February 26, 2023-March 4, 2023)

Let us pray that we be transformed during Lenten Season:  God our Father, in the desert your Son Jesus struggled forty days with the demands of his mission and he overcame all temptations. In these forty days of Lenten Season transform us. Turn our hearts to the peace of your forgiveness, the light of your love, and your concern for people.  May we find the life and the joy which Jesus brings us and share it with others.
Amen.

Sunday Reflection (February 12, 2023)

On a grand scale, every congregation of Christ’s Church is in ministry together (1 Corinthians 3:1-9).  We tell the story of the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus.  We are empowered by the Holy Spirit to make a difference for the good in our local areas through deeds of kindness, charity, and compassion, as well as working for fairness and justice.

God has been building and is building us into a spiritual building called Christ’s Church.  Christ’s Church has deep roots in our history.  Christ’s Church has spread across the globe in various and different cultures and languages. I am confident that the Holy Spirit works in all congregations of Christ Church from the various types of Protestants (and there are many) to the Orthodox to the Roman Catholic.  We are in Christ’s Church together.

Prayer for the Week (February 12, 2023-February 18, 2023)

Let us pray for obedience to God:  Thank you, Jesus our Savior, for keeping God’s law perfectly for us.
Teach us through your Spirit to follow you and fulfill the law by a life of love.  Amen.

Sunday Reflection (February 5, 2023)

Insights, whether divine or not, put events, connections, and situations in a broader perspective. For some Corinthian Christians and us, the spectacle of a shamefully crucified Messiah does not fit our concept of strength and power (1 Corinthians 2:1-15).

Nevertheless, Paul noted that he had the mind of Christ and he connected it with Christ crucified (1 Corinthians 2:16). In Paul’s life, he had become weak to help others; he had given up the pursuit of violence to persuade others by love and example. He embraced the way of love, compassion, and humility. May we too have the mind of Christ!

Prayer for the Week (February 5, 2023-February 11, 2023)

Let us pray that we be a light to those around us: Faithful God, you have called us to be a light shining in the world. May we reflect the light of Christ, so that people see your love and goodness in our words and actions. We ask this through your Son, our Lord, Jesus Christ.  Amen.
